Q - What equipment is needed to Play Ringette?

Mandatory Equipment

  • Helmet and Full Ringette Face Mask or Visor (CSA approved and compatible)
  • BNQ Approved Neck Protector
  • Shoulder Pads
  • Elbow Pads
  • Padded Gloves
  • Girdle and Ringette Pants
  • Knee and Shin Pads (with hard shell)
  • Hockey Skates (Figure skates are not permitted)

Optional Equipment

  • Mouth Guard

Ringette Stick

  • The maximum length of the stick is to the height of the underarm with player on skates.
  • The stick may be cut from a hockey stick provided it meets the specifications as in the “Official Rules” of Ringette Canada:
  • The player’s stick shall have both ends smooth (not cracked or splintered), with no added tape within the lower one-third of the length of the stick.  Width faces of the stick must form two straight parallel lines from end to end. Thickness faces must also form two straight lines except at the playing end
  • The stick may be made of wood, plastic or aluminium, and/or any other material approved by Ringette Canada
  • The minimum thickness at the tip must not be less than 12 mm and the taper length must not be more than 250 mm.  The tip, at the playing end, must be at 90 degrees to the parallel portion of the thickness faces.  Thickness faces must also form two straight lines, except at the playing tip, which is tapered, must be symmetrical and formed of smooth straight faces
  • The width of shaft shall be a maximum of 35 mm and a minimum of 27 mm.  The thickness of the shaft shall be a maximum of 25 mm and a minimum of 17.5 mm.
  • A stick gauge may be purchased from Ringette Canada or your provincial/territorial association.  The gauge allows for quick and reliable measurements of all stick dimensions.

  • Helmet and Full Face Mask or Combination Plastic and Wire Head and Facial Protector (CSA Approved)
  • Chest Protector
  • Goal Pads

Goalkeeper’s Optional Equipment - in addition

  • Blocker
  • Trapper or Ringette Glove
  • Goalkeeper’s Skates
  • Arm Pads
  • Goalkeeper’s Pants
  • Polyethylene Throat Protector

Q - Why should I help and be a volunteer?

The Newmarket & District Ringette Association is run by parents, players, and other caring volunteers on the NDRA Executive. 

There are also many bench staff positions to be filled, ie. Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Trainers and Managers.  

We cannot do it without you!
